Hi There!

I'm Carmen Shawn,

Behavioural Systems Strategist, Registered Health Coach, Registered Holistic Nutritionist, and Exercise Professional.

I help individuals and organizations understand why healthy behaviours are so difficult to sustain, and how to build systems that make lasting change possible.

"For over three decades, I've worked in fitness, nutrition, health coaching, and behaviour change. Early in my career, I believed what many people believe: if people simply knew what to do, they would do it.

Over time, I realized that information isn't the problem. Most people already know they should exercise more, eat more vegetables, manage stress, or get more sleep. The real challenge is knowing how to consistently apply that information within the reality of their own lives.

That's where behaviour becomes complex.

Our decisions are shaped by far more than knowledge alone. Stress, competing priorities, work demands, family responsibilities, environment, past experiences, confidence, emotions, physical health, identity, workplace culture, and even the systems surrounding us all influence whether healthy behaviours stick or fall away.

What works for one person, one team, or one organization may not work for another. Lasting change requires more than motivation or willpower. It requires understanding the barriers that exist, identifying the opportunities for change, and developing a strategy that is realistic, flexible, and sustainable.

That realization changed the way I coach.

Over the years, my work has naturally evolved beyond traditional health coaching into behavioural strategy. I've had the opportunity to contribute to behaviour-focused health initiatives that reinforce a principle I strongly believe in: information alone rarely changes behaviour. Sustainable change happens when we understand the person, the environment, and the systems influencing their decisions, then build a strategy around those realities rather than expecting people to simply "try harder."

Instead of focusing solely on nutrition plans or exercise programs, I became deeply interested in the science of behaviour. I wanted to understand why people struggle to follow through, why motivation fluctuates, why habits are difficult to build, and why lasting change often feels so out of reach despite our best intentions.

Today, my work combines health coaching with behavioural strategy.

Whether I'm working with an individual navigating a health transition, supporting a healthcare initiative, or partnering with an organization to improve employee well-being, my approach remains the same: understand the system before trying to change it.

Because behaviour doesn't happen in isolation. It happens within people, within teams, and within environments. When we understand those systems and create strategies that work with them instead of against them, sustainable change becomes far more achievable.

Health isn't just about knowing what to do. It's about creating the conditions that allow people to do it consistently. That's where I believe meaningful and lasting change begins.

What I Do

Rather than simply giving advice, I help people and organizations understand:

  • Why behaviour gets stuck

  • Why motivation comes and goes

  • How habits are built

  • How physiology affects behaviour

  • How behaviour affects health

  • How small system changes create long-term outcomes

Who I Work With

Throughout my career, I realized that the way we collect, interpret, and apply information isn't limited to health. Every time we pursue a new goal, navigate a life transition, change careers, step into leadership, or face a health challenge, we're constantly processing information and making decisions. The challenge isn't simply having more information, it's knowing which information matters, how to interpret it, and how to use it to move forward with confidence.

That's why my work extends beyond traditional health coaching. Whether the goal is improving well-being, supporting employees, navigating midlife, or creating healthier workplace cultures, my focus is always the same: developing practical behavioural strategies that help people turn knowledge into meaningful action.

Individuals

I work with individuals who want to improve their health, build sustainable habits, and navigate life's transitions with greater confidence. While my work spans many areas of health and behaviour change, I have a particular interest in supporting women through midlife, helping them better understand the physiological changes they're experiencing while developing practical strategies that support long-term health and longevity.

Organizations

I partner with organizations to support employee health, well-being, and behaviour change through evidence-informed strategies, coaching, and education. My approach focuses on creating realistic systems that help people apply knowledge in their day-to-day work and lives, leading to healthier employees, greater engagement, and more sustainable outcomes.

Healthcare & Wellness Partners

I collaborate with healthcare professionals, wellness teams, and organizations to help bridge the gap between clinical recommendations and real-world implementation. Together, we create behaviour-focused approaches that make health information more practical, personalized, and achievable.
